La Casita Cultural Center

CUBA: the stories, the music and dance, the art and cuisine. Join us for a grand opening event to kick-off a new season at La Casita.

CUBA is a collection of paintings, photography, video, memorabilia, and cultural relics. La Casita's opening event will also showcase great music, dancing, and a delicious tasting of traditional Caribbean cuisine. Directly from the margins, six Cuban Syracuse-based artists and scholars, examine life in Cuba and the refugee experience within our own community through visual and personal narratives.

Richell Castellón, visual artist, painting
Dashel Hernández, visual artist, video
Danisley Pérez Bravo, architect, photographer
Roberto Luis Pérez, dance choreographer, performance
Dalgis Viera Alarcón, industrial engineer, photographer
Sanlly Viera, visual artist, painting

Each year, La Casita presents its inaugural event commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month with a new exhibition that invites community participation, an assembly of meaningful artifacts that honor our traditions, our struggles and resilience. The 2018 program examines life in Cuba, working with an amazing group of artists that we are proud to have in our Syracuse community. Their stories reveal parallels, a universal character among Latin American and Caribbean migrant populations. The project fosters intercultural communication and understanding through dialogue.
